At Pier 210 Dental, our staff understands that some people are anxious about dental care, and we want all of our patients to feel comfortable when receiving care in our office. That is why we offer dental treatment with the use of a mild sedative to help calm the nerves. If needed, we can provide you a medication which is taken an hour before your appointment to help calm the nerves and relax the mind. By the time that your treatment is ready to start, you will be feeling calm and ready to go. Responsiveness and consciousness will be maintained throughout the appointment, but you will experience reduced awareness of what is happening during your treatment, and often won’t remember any of it afterward. Once treatment is over, you will need a driver for transport home, and it will take a few hours for the medication to wear off and for you to regain full consciousness. This is not the same as general anesthesia, or being put completely “out” as one would be for surgery, but is very effective for patients with high anxiety. For those who are less anxious, we offer nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, as well.
If you face an urgent situation, we want you to know we can see you the same day to ease your pain and address the problem.
With the advanced technology of a computerized design and milling device, you can have a permanent crown made and placed in just one visit! In one short appointment, your crown will fit, with no temporary crowns that can come off and be swallowed!
Dr. Roholt is licensed to provide patients with the Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™ for obvious or excessive gum recession. Also referred to as a Lunchtime Gum Lift®, this is a surgery-free, minimally invasive procedure. It is an alternative to gum grafting with less pain and healing time involved.
All of the tools and technology used to perform the Chao Pinhole Surgery were created by Dr. John Chao who personally taught Dr. Roholt the process. There is no cutting with a scalpel, but instead several small pinholes are placed above the gumline. With special instruments, the gum tissue is loosened and guided to cover any exposed root surfaces of teeth. Tiny strips of collagen are inserted through the pinholes to plump up the tissue and hold it in place in the new position. There are NO incisions, NO sutures, and minimal discomfort and swelling.
In the past, wearing braces meant 3-5 years in active treatment, but not anymore! Although time varies per individual, with Invisalign™ you can complete your active treatment in 6-24 months, or less! Invisalign corrects everything traditional braces can, such as overbites, underbites, crossbites, gapped teeth, and overcrowding. These thermoplastic aligners are designed with three-dimensional imaging technology. A series of aligners are created starting with the current position of your teeth through the final corrected position. They resemble teeth-whitening trays and fit your teeth exactly. Approximately every two weeks you move into the next set of aligners that gently and gradually position your teeth. Total treatment time varies according to individual needs. Evaluation is necessary only every four to eight weeks.
Invisalign offers distinct advantages over traditional braces. As the name suggests, they are nearly invisible! The aligners are also comfortable because they are all in one piece, like a retainer. There are no wires that need to be adjusted, no headgear, and no brackets attached to your teeth. This eliminates any mouth irritation. With no adjustments necessary, you spend less time in the dentist’s chair. You wear your aligners throughout the day and during sleeping, but you remove them when eating and brushing. This allows you to eat and drink whatever YOU want – absolutely no food restrictions during your treatment. Call today and schedule your free consultation to see if you’re a candidate for Invisalign.
With today’s advanced technologies and modern anesthetics, root canals are much easier for patients and no longer something to be avoided. This therapy will save a tooth, rather than have it extracted. It is a fact that a missing tooth can cause other oral problems that could have been prevented by saving the tooth.
During this procedure, the interior pulp chamber of the tooth is removed. It is then packed with a filling material used just for this treatment. Sometimes a tooth needs added strength for full functionality, and a crown will be placed over the original tooth. Dr. Roholt and his team are well-experienced in the latest advancements in root canals to successfully save your teeth!
If you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea because you suffer from the problems of snoring and interrupted respiration during sleep, you may be using a CPAP device to solve the problem. This device works well for unobstructed breathing throughout the night and can eliminate snoring. The problem, according to many patients, is how bulky and uncomfortable the CPAP mask is. If you have become aggravated with a CPAP device, let us introduce an alternative that works successfully for most patients, is easy to insert and remove, and is comfortable to wear. This small acrylic device is placed over the upper and lower teeth, similar to a retainer or mouthguard. It takes care of the problem by realigning the tongue and jaw and keeping your airway open for the inhaling and exhaling of air. Patients have been amazed at how easy and comfortable it is, and thrilled to get a good night’s sleep with this device. Give us a call today to relieve this problem for you and your mate.
Have you had to put up with neck and shoulder pain, aching or popping jaws, and those frequent and excruciating headaches? Let our doctors show you another remedy that can prevent the occurrence of most migraine and headache events that do not call for medication. Most of this pain is caused by malocclusion – this is to say, your upper and lower jaws do not come together or fit as nature intended. This position creates tension and pain in the jaw joint and adjacent muscles. If you have lived with this problem for such a long time that you think it is just the way it has to be, we can restore a quality of life that you thought not possible. Set up an appointment today to bring relief and make this problem something from the past.
We are very pleased to offer our patients, when appropriate, immediate temporized implants. By placing a well-fitting and beautiful temporary crown, you can often avoid having to wear an uncomfortable “flipper” that replaces one to several teeth, while implants are healing. In one appointment, you can come into our office with holes in your smile and leave with natural-looking teeth. Implants can now give you the confidence to smile without wearing uncomfortable partial dentures or waiting long periods of time to look and feel confident!
If your teeth are discolored, gapped, misshapen, cracked, chipped or worn, we can change all that to beautiful, white, straight, and uniform teeth with Veneers. These sheets of ceramic porcelain are very thin, but very hard, to be durable and aesthetic for an attractive look. The veneer can be made to match the shade of the surrounding teeth and blend in naturally.
In our office, our doctors use fillings that contain no metal. Amalgam fillings have some shortcomings, as metal does not adhere well to the enamel. The composite resins we use have no metal and bond very tightly to tooth structure. They can be made to match a tooth’s color, so they are nearly invisible. As they adhere well to a tooth, chances of decay starting under the filling are slight.
The form and structure of your teeth and dental arch have more of a bearing on your life than you may think. Improper bite, bruxism (teeth grinding), TMJ, inflamed and infected gums, and worn-down teeth are dental problems that can cause headaches, toothaches, pain in other parts of the body, and chronic bad breath, to name but a few. Your doctor will discuss with you your symptoms, problems, and goals. Options for treatment will be derived after X-rays, images, and impressions of your dental arches are taken. Working together, we can achieve a naturally positioned, pain-free, healthy smile.
Kids love not only the special care we give them, but the gentle manner in which we provide the treatment, as well. They feel at ease and even enjoy their visits. We use the latest techniques in children’s dentistry to be effective and make it easy for your kids. At Pier 210 Dental our team instructs your kids on how to keep good oral hygiene and encourages nutritious food choices to keep their natural teeth for a lifetime. We want every generation of children to grow up with no fears of the dentist’s office. Our office provides a happy and relaxed environment. which lets children feel calm and secure during visits.
The Importance of Dental Visits for Children
Children’s teeth are prone to cavities – more so than adults. There are several reasons for this susceptibility during their formative years. Often children do not brush thoroughly and miss certain areas of their teeth. We advise parents to oversee their daily dental hygiene to help them develop proper brushing and flossing habits to keep all their teeth clean and healthy. Children also tend to eat throughout the day. Every time you eat, acids are produced in the mouth to break down foods. Continual exposure to acid can increase the number of cavities. If teeth are improperly cleaned, that generates additional acid that further increases the rate of cavity development. Better brushing, healthier food choices, and an application of a dental sealant can greatly reduce the risk of a cavity.
An Easy Way to Prevent Children’s Cavities
At Pier 210 Dental, we highly recommend dental sealants that seal the grooves on permanent back teeth to prevent cavities in those hard to reach places. This is an easy and quick process, that does not require anesthetic, and can be completed by either a doctor, hygienist, our RDA’s (Registered Dental Assistants), and even our RDAEF2 Angie! Sometimes even the most careful brushing will miss areas in the back teeth. The contours and grooves of teeth are the most susceptible spots. When bacteria and acid linger, plaque will form and eventually cause decay. Even the smallest cavity is permanent damage to a tooth and will need a filling. At Pier 210 Dental, there is a treatment we can perform to lessen the chance of cavities. Here is the whole process:
1. Teeth are thoroughly cleaned and polished.
2. A thin coating of the sealant is applied to the surface of the child’s rear teeth. This is clear or white and not visible.
3. The dentist, hygienist, or assistant bonds the coating to the teeth with a curing light.
And the treatment is completed in just a few minutes! There are no shots or drilling. This is a safe and very effective method of preserving children’s and adolescents’ teeth for a lifetime.
