Cosmetic Dentist: Your Options

Feb 16, 2019 | Cosmetic Dentist

Cosmetic dentists are a bit different from general dentists. Although they have the same training and qualifications, it comes down to their focus on the teeth and procedures they will recommend.

A general dentist has the focus of ensuring a patient keeps their natural teeth, and if an issue arises that a tooth is lost or needs to be extracted that the best solution for keeping good oral health is implemented.

On the other hand, a cosmetic dentist has the focus of making their patients teeth and smile look their best. They focus on suggesting procedures and treatments that will keep people having the best looking teeth possible. Their patients will never be ashamed of smiling for a picture, and they will feel confident with how their teeth look every day.

Cosmetic procedure options

Of course, there are many different procedures and treatments that a cosmetic dentist may recommend. Sometimes it is a mixture of more than one to help their patient obtain the best-looking smile. Below are a few of the most popular:

Dental veneers

Dental veneers are some of the best solutions for patients with chipped, broken or worn down teeth. Because of the ease of installation, veneers have become a top option for cosmetic dentists to recommend for the patients.

The procedure to have dental veneers installed is simple. After taking a mold to be sent to a lab for construction, the dentist shaves a tiny portion of the tooth enamel off to prepare the teeth to have the veneer attached.

After the dental veneer is received back from the lab, the dentist will bond the wafer-thin shell to the teeth, and the patient will have a bright, white smile in no time at all.

Teeth whitening

For patients that are not happy with how white their teeth are due to stains and discoloration, a cosmetic dentist will frequently suggest having a teeth whitening procedure done. Because of the strength compared to store-bought options, it is normal to get whiter teeth that are at least 8 shades whiter than before the procedure.

Dental implants

For patients with one or more missing teeth, dental implants can work wonders. The implants are fastened directly to the jawbone which helps to ensure the bone does not continue to deteriorate over time. After the implant is secure a dental crown is attached to the top and will look and feel like a natural tooth.
